Introduction
Managing transactional electrical and Instrumentation maintenance activities according Mill goals, priorities and plans. Applying and developing best practice systems and procedures in planning and organizing maintenance activities, problem solving and cost management. Providing Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation technical guidance to the Mill and Engineering department Identifying, assessing and developing new electrical and instrumentation engineering practices to adhere to continuous improvement strategies.
Job description

·        To Lead and co-ordinate technical support activities to the Engineering department by providing expertise on Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation engineering aspects

·        Design, plan, organize, lead, implement and monitor Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation projects to improve safety, quality, reliability, throughput and process plant efficiencies for the existing operations.

·        To continuously monitor, assess and provide input and support to the business in ensuring a sustainable and reliable electrical and instrument infrastructure

·        Developing, maintaining and ensuring compliance to E&I drawings, engineering standards, SABS codes and OHS Act.

·        To manage the Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation department to plan, organise, implement and monitor Electrical and Instrumentation maintenance which will improve equipment uptime, reliability, quality, throughput, efficiencies and safety.

·        Uses resources efficiently and effectively. Control and manage Operational Cost for Cost centre.

·        Contributes to budget setting & control of costs

·        Awareness of impact on business of financial decisions

·        Provide annual strategic input for Capex budgeting for the Mill on all Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation engineering systems

·        To provide input to the Mill Electrical and Instrumentation engineering maintenance and training budgets. 

·        Communicates and collaborates effectively with others

·        Proactively builds professional relationships within and across teams

·        Support and assist team and colleagues in developing technical solutions.

·        Implement, monitor and control the execution of the Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance strategy.

·        Provide effective engineering and decision support to the Mill for optimisation of processes and systems to achieve benchmarked reliability, efficiencies, process reliability and business plan requirements.

·        Develop and facilitate the solution of electrical and instrumentation problems and plan the execution of corrective actions.

·        Guide and advise mill management on electrical and instrumentation solutions

·        Sourcing and development of Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering technologies relevant to the industry in achievement of strategic goals.

·        Provide input and execution of feasibility studies and conceptual designs.

·        Achieves results in a way that builds and maintains constructive working relationships with managers, engineers, project teams, peers, clients and other service providers

·        Demonstrates understanding of internal and external customer needs, expectations and delivers accordingly

·        Collaborates effectively with internal and external service providers

·        Defines and ensures conformance to engineering standards

·        Listen to, accurately captures and actions customer’s expectations, ideas and concerns.

·        Builds effective working relationship with key stakeholders

·        Ensures compliance to  engineering standards

·        To provide input and facilitate expert Risk analysis and mitigation for the Mill

·        To provide input for annual and 5-year Capex plans required for the Mill

·        To provide input into the organisation Energy sustainability strategy

 

Minimum requirements

Matric or Grade 12 with Mathematics & Science.

·       National Diploma Electrical Engineering / B.Tech Electrical Eng / B Degree: Electrical Engineering.

·       A Post Graduate Degree in Business Administration would be an advantage.

Experience:

Minimum 5-7 years Electrical Engineering experience in a Manufacturing/Production environment.

Strong Experience in Instrumentation support to the Production team for Plant Availability.

Working in a Lean Manufacturing Production System focused on Problem-solving at all levels in Manufacturing/Production.

Ability to manage Engineering workshops.

·        Intermediate Electrical Engineering aspects (Power distribution, electrical protection, medium and low voltage systems, power quality, motors and drives and motor control centres)

·        Basic Electrical Engineering design principles (Sizing of electrical distribution components such as cables, transformers, motor control centres, substations, and other electrical equipment.)

·        Intermediate Instrumentation Engineering aspects (Electronics, DC voltage distribution, valves, sensors, switches, analysers, programmable logic controllers, profibus)

·        Basic Design of MCCs, and instrumentation including: single line drawings, schematics, termination drawings, and general arrangements

·        Intermediate Electrical and Instrumentation maintenance systems

·        Basic Profibus systems

·        Basic Project Engineering

·        Basic Project Management

·        Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering standards (OSHAct, SANS, IEEE, Zoning)

·        High level of computer literacy including Microsoft Office.
